Lost Passport

My friend lost her passport after the visa was issued. Does she have to get the visa issued again?

If you lose your passport after the visa has been issued, you have to go through the same procedure as if being issuing a new visa. But for a damaged or expired passport, you can be issued the same visa upon visiting the Embassy with the old passport.

Luna said, A foreigner who holds a visa status which allows them to work in Korea is able to work. However, the type of business is different depending on the visa status and the foreigner has to work in a designated workplace. For some visa status, you are able to apply for the Participation in Activities Uncertified for Current Sojourn Status or Work Permit, and if you meet the necessary conditions and received permission, you are able to work.

Do I have to apply for an alien registration card?

Luna said, A foreigner who intends to stay in South Korea more than 90 days has to apply for an alien registration card at the immigration office for his place of residency.

Expired re-entry permit

Luna said, According to the visa issuance procedure, you have to apply for a new visa at the Korean diplomatic mission.

Visa stay extension

Luna said, Short-term visa holders who will stay until after the expiry date have to apply for an extension of their duration of stay at a local immigration office before the expiry date in accordance with Article 25 of the Immigration Act. In principle, the number of days of the stay can’t exceed 90 days from the date of entry, and an extension of stay may be restricted depending on the purpose of desired extension.

Prohibited Entry

Luna said, You can check whether you are prohibited from entering Korea and the expected release date of your prohibition of entry, at the Korean Embassy or Consulate General in the country of your residence. You can visit the Embassy with your passport or any other identification materials to check whether you are prohibited from entering Korea.

Multiple Visa Requirements

Luna said, Therefore, if your minor children with multi-nationality haven’t vowed the “non-use of foreign nationality” and have inevitable circumstances, they can be issued a short-term multiple visa (C-3, 90 days of stay, valid for 1 year) according to statement 1) above. Entry and exit is free within the valid period, and the maximum duration of stay is 90 days for every entry.

I couldn’t prepare some documents required for the visa application. Will I still be able to apply?

Luna said, You have to submit the required documents without any being omitted. Your application will be disapproved if the required documents are missing or incomplete. But depending on the type of visa or under special circumstances where applicant is deemed unable to submit the documents, he/she can request the exemption of a document’s submission. The name of the document for exemption and reason for the request of exemption should be written on the annexed form, along with your full name, date of birth, passport number, and signature. The evaluation process for the submission of documents with the annexed form for exemption request will take longer than usual.

I want to know about the qualifications for the application of confirmation of e-visa issuance.

Luna said, The confirmation of e-Visa issuance can be applied for by a foreigner under the categories below, or the inviting person on behalf of the applicant. - Professor (E-1), Foreign Language Instructor(E-2), Researcher (E-3), Technical Instructor/Technician Transfer (E-4), Professional Employment (E-5), Foreign National of Special Ability (E-7) under category 1 or 2 of the standard classification of occupations (National Statistical Office announcement 2007-3), Dependent Family(F-3) - Student (D-2) or Korean Language Trainee (D-4-1) - Non-professional (E-9), Maritime Crew (E-10) - Short/Long-Term Medical Tourist (C-3-3, G-1-10) - Short-term visit on invitation from a preferential company (C-3-6)

What’s the difference between the corporate investment scheme and the immigrant investor scheme?

Luna said, For immigrant investment, on the other hand, you will be granted an F-2 Visa by investing 500 million won or more (700 million won for investments in real estate in some areas) in Korea. You are free to engage in business, education, etc., and even without business results, you can extend your visa as long as the investment status is maintained and unless you violate any of the terms and conditions associated with F-2 status.

For the Immigrant Investor Scheme for Public Business, will my adult child be issued the same visa as me?

Luna said, If you’re issued an F-2 Visa through the Immigrant Investor Scheme for Public Business, the investor’s spouse and minor children or unmarried adult children will be issued with an F-2 Visa as well.

My last name changed, what do I do?

Luna said, If you change the English spelling of your name, the visa obtained on your old passport is still valid. It would not be a problem if you keep both old and new passports to prove that the two names are of the same person.

I would like to study in Korea. What procedures do I need to take?

Luna said, If you are a foreign student who wish to study in Korea, you must obtain an admission letter from the university where you wishes to enter and apply for a D-2 visa.
