I want to know about the qualifications for the e-Visa application.

The qualifications for e-Visa application are as follows (as of Nov 2014):
- Professor (E-1), Researcher (E-3), Technical instructor/Technician (E-4), Professional (E-5), Foreign National of Special Ability with employment recommendation (GOLD CARD) from the KOTRA or Small and Medium Business Corporation (E-7). Dependent family (F-3) of aforementioned visa applicants.
- Foreign medical patient and his/her companions invited by an Outstanding Medical Travel Agency (C-3-3, G-1-10)
- Commercial visitor who has entered Korea three times or more after 2012 (C-3-4)

Luna said, First, go to Korea Visa Portal and find the "Visa Navigator" button. You are required to supply the following information: - Continent - Country - Purpose of Entry - Length of Stay If you’re from a country under a Visa Exemption Agreement with Korea or mentioned under the Immigration Act for the exemption of a visa application, then you can visit Korea without any prior procedure. If you’re required to apply for a visa, then follow the steps in the Visa Navigator and please prepare the required documents (depending on the visa type) and apply for the visa issuance.

How can I check the progress of a Visa application?

Luna said, You can click on the "Check Application Status" on the left of the visa portal screen to check the status of your application. If you type the application number followed by the applicant’s personal information, the status of your application will appear. Visa portal link: https://www.visa.go.kr/

Do I have to go through an interview while applying for my visa at the Embassy?

Luna said, Not all applicants necessarily have to go through an interview. The interview is required depending on the applicant or the type of visa. The Embassy may directly call the applicant or the Visa application agency (travel agency designated by the Embassy) may contact the applicant for an interview. You can check the interview request status through "Check Application Status".

How long will the evaluation take for visa application?

Luna said, For the e-Visa, you can check the evaluation results within 3 working days from submission. However, for such cases in which required documents are omitted, submission of additional documents is requested, or an investigation is required, evaluation might take longer than usual and the notice letter will be sent to the applicant or the representative via e-mail or SMS. For the Visas being processed at the Diplomatic Office, you can check for the evaluation result within 5 working days from submission. For the cases which require interviews and investigation (e.g. marriage migrant visa), the evaluation process may take 1~2 months. Please refer to the notice board of the Diplomatic Office of submission for the duration of the visa issuance process. Each Diplomatic Office may require a different amount of time depending on the workload.

Luna said, You have to submit the required documents, such as the application form, passport, fee, and other documents proving the purpose of your entry (depending on the type of visa), to the Embassy/Consulate General of the Republic of Korea. Depending on the policies of the Embassy/Consulate General of the Republic of Korea (in the country you are currently residing in), you can visit there in person or submit the documents through a designated travel/visa application agency.

Where do I have to submit my visa application form?

Luna said, Depending on your purpose of entry and duration of stay, you can submit your Visa application form either to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea or to a visa application agency (or designated travel agency). Moreover, you can apply for an e-Visa through the Republic of Korea’s Visa portal (www.visa.go.kr). You can either write on the form after downloading the application or simply fill out the form online. It is strongly recommended that you use the online submission function rather than visit the immigration office because it could save you a lot of time. Please refer to the Visa Navigator or the Visa Guide for the application method necessary for your type of visa.

What is the e-Visa?

Luna said, The e-Visa is a system which allows the applicant or the inviting party to be notified with approval upon submission of the application form and required documents online through the Republic of Korea’s Visa Portal. The applicant or the inviting party will receive a notice of approval after submitting the relevant documents without having to visit the immigration office or the diplomatic office, and the e-Visa holder will be able to enter Korea without an additional Visa label (visa sticker).

Until when can I use the visa?

Luna said, If you’re planning a tour in Korea, you have to enter before the expiry date of entry. Depending on the number of visits, the validity periods are as follows: - Visa for single-entry - 3 months - Visa for double-entry - 6 months - Visa for multiple-entry (3 times or more) - 1 year The visa for entry of 3 times or more can be issued with a validity of 1 year, 3 years, or 5 years, depending on the agreement between the applicant’s country and the Republic of Korea.

I’m a registered foreigner holding a long-term visa. I want to invite my parents to Korea during my stay to tour around. What should I do?

Luna said, To invite your family member for a short-term visit or tour, you can apply for a Short-Term General visa (C-3-1, valid for 3 months, single-entry visa of 90 days-of-stay). The required documents for family invitation are as follows: - Inviter: a original copy of invitation letter, a photocopy of identification card. - Family member: visa application form (with a photo being attached), passport (original and photocopy), a photocopy of identification card, documents proving your family relations (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate ) and the purpose of your entry. Depending on the policies of the Korean diplomatic missions, the required documents may vary - so, please check the official website of the mission for more details.

What’s the difference between “duration(period) of stay” and “expiry date”?

Luna said, Duration of stay states the maximum number of days that you can stay from entry - exceeding the stated duration of stay will make you an illegal immigrant. Expiry date is the latest date you can enter with the issued visa. Upon exceeding the expiry date, immigration officials will reject your entry for not holding a valid visa.

Luna said, The processing fees for visa application are as follows: 1. Single-Entry Visa - 1) duration of stay 90 days or less : 40USD - 2) duration of stay 91 days or more : 60USD 2. Multiple-Entry Visa - 1) Multiple-Entry Visa which allows entry up to two times : 70USD - 2) Multiple-Entry Visa with no limit on the number of entries : 90USD Please note, however, the visa fees may vary depending on the applicant’s nationality, visa type, duration of stay, validity period of his/her visa, and international conventions and agreements.
